Do not worry if bad weather has had your family cooped up indoors. For my kids, we have put together a list of their favourite rainy-day activities.
A rainy day will send you into a tailspin if you have toddlers at home. There is no playground. There will be no parking. There will be no bike rides. What unique ways can we come up with to pass the time when we are stuck inside?
Take a deep breath before going ultimately off the rails. We have assembled a list of indoor party games for kids that have been tried and tested.
Family Movie Day
Nothing beats a family movie night with your kids, a blanket, a kids pillow, and a coffee table full of snacks? There is not much. My kids enjoy the ability to eat snacks while watching a full-length film.
Transform your family room into your own personal theatre on the next rainy day or night. Even if stuck at home, a special movie night will feel like a private getaway with a bit of effort. Go for a movie that the whole family will enjoy, then settle in and enjoy the show!
Family Game Day
If you rather spend time with your family away from the television, try a classic board game. Playing board games is the best way to spend a relaxing day at home, whether you are buying real estate in Monopoly or avoiding the enticing treats in Candy Land. You will appreciate the break from computers, and your children will enjoy watching you interact and play with them. Depending on your children’s ages, form pairs or make your youngest ones play with you.
Make Blanket Fort
Believe us when every toy is better when it is within a blanket and baby pillow fort. When the next rainy day arrives, set up your fort in the living room, and the room will take on a completely different vibe. Kids can keep themselves occupied for hours by colouring with crayons, reading books, or building with Lego. Under cover of a blanket, even the most boring old toys take on a new lease on life.
Play Hide and Seek
Yes, we realise this one is one of basic indoor games in India, but small children enjoy easy things. Make use of the whole house and get creative with the game’s rules. Instead of counting to 10, children are required to recite the alphabet.
It will not be challenging to locate your children. Play it up a notch and claim they are almost impossible to identify.
Have a Dance Party
An excellent old-school dance party is a classic when it comes to indoor events. Loud music can aid in the release of some of their almost limitless energy. Dancing around the house will help you get some exercise and burn off pent-up steam.
