Guide To Head Lice Removal

10 July – Head Lice are parasites that are present in human hair and on the scalp. Their lifespan is only 30 days or a month-long. Head lice commonly spread through children. When children come in contact with other children in schools, head lice tend to spread. A specimen has six legs and two claws that have a tight grip of hair. They are very difficult to notices as their color camouflage with the scalp. They are red, brown, or grey.

How Lice Spreads:

Head lice spread through personal contact with someone who already has lice. Or it could come from infectious sources like the affected person’s combs, towels, clothing, bedding, or even furniture. Since lice cannot jump or fly, one can still prevent it by not coming in contact with it. There are other more effective ways to prevent it too. There are several ways of getting rid of it through Complete Head Lice Removal. If one has lice, it is always better to get rid of it as it damages the scalp and, in turn, damages one’s hair.

Signs And Symptoms Of Head Lice:

The main sign one has lice itching and scratching. This parasite, when laying eggs, injects its spit into the bite wound on the scalp. This prevents blood clotting, so it doesn’t heal easily and causes bumps and soars on the scalp. As expected, it destroys the scalp and causes a lot of pain and itching. To check if one really has lice, they should get fine-toothed lice to comb and try combing their hair from the scalp. After combing hair, one might find small inspects the size of sesame seeds. If these insects are present, then one has lice.

Getting Rid Of Head Lice:

There are many natural remedies and treatments to get rid of lice. And these methods are still being proven to be safe or effective. There are methods like smothering, wet combing, use of essential oils and more. These natural remedies involve intense and time-consuming combing.

  • Smothering: Smothering is coating hair in almond or olive oil before intense combing. One needs to remove each and every individual louse with their lice comb. This is needed to be repeated daily for a week to be effective.
  • Wet Combing: For the wet combing methods, one must first apply conditioner on their wet hair. And then, they must remove each individual louse from their hair with the lice comb. This can be incredibly time-consuming, but it is effective.
  • Using Essential Oils: This method also involves intense combing. And it involves the use of essential oils. Essential oils are to be diluted before being used by children. Children’s skin is sensitive, and essential oils may be too strong on their skin. So it needs to be diluted before use for children and those with sensitive skin. Several essential oils have been used to kill lice before combing it. There is still research as to which oils are the most effective.

These methods are not effective in getting rid of lice quickly or completely. If one needs to get rid of lice for their whole family, these methods are not feasible. If an entire family is infested with lice, this is too time-consuming and difficult to carry out, and it is also not efficient enough. For a quicker solution, one can get in-home lice treatment products. There are three types of these treatments:

  • There will be lice treatment products available like lice shampoos, creams and lotions. They can be brought from most drug stores. However, some variants of lice have evolved to become more resistant to these treatments and the main ingredient that has made them effective in the first place. These lice have evolved to become super lice that look the same as normal lice but are more resistant to some chemicals. Even when used correctly, the ones that rely on permethrin and pyrethrin are not effective on 98% of the lice in the USA.

Smothering involves using household creams, lotions to suffocate lice and comb out lice. After suffocation, each individual louse and nit needs to be combed out. There is insufficient evidence that is using gel, cream,

  • is effective at killing lice.

Using a dry vapor system to kill lice may be the only permanent solution to killing lice effectively. This over-the-counter method has proven scientifically to eliminate lice permanently.

  • This method does not use permethrin or pyrethrin, so it works well even against super lice. Even these resistant creatures can’t survive this treatment. This method is quick and all-natural, and safe for everyone to use. It can also be used for children, and it doesn’t damage their sensitive skin.

One can choose any of these effective lice treatments to get rid of their head lice. One also needs to know how to nit-pick lice out of hair for some of these methods like smothering. This is combing out lice with a lice comb.

Lice Combs:

There are lice comb available in that market that are made out of metal or plastic. A very fine plastic is considered to be the best option as it does not further damage the scalp. And it removes out lice, nits and their eggs. A metal comb is also very effective as it removes out the lice, eggs and lice and nits well, but it could damage the scalp if pressure is put on the comb. One could buy their lice comb along with their treatment products or separately online.

This how one uses the lice comb to comb out lice from their hair or their child’s hair:

  • Wet the hair and apply a standard conditioner. This allows the hair to become slick so that one can use the fine-tooth comb later more easily. Tangles also easily come out to make the job easier.
  • Comb through the hair with a standard wide tooth comb to remove any tangles so that the process goes more smoothly. If one is combing long hair, they could make more partitions so that it handles more easily as one goes to comb each section at a time.
  • Now that one is ready to use the fine-toothed comb. One should start at the base of the hair, near the neck. One should make sections of the hair and comb it. If the hair is long, these sections should be secured by clips to get it out of the way.
  • If one has trouble seeing, they should make sure that the area is well lit. It is better if the area is well lit before starting. While it may not be necessary, some people use magnifying glasses to make sure to get the job done. One could also use a magnifying glass to check thoroughly, to get things done better.
  • The best technique in using the lice comb is to lay the comb flat against the section and draw it on one end across. The comb should be wiped off after each stroke to ensure that the lice removed from the hair stay out of the hair. Each section of hair should be combed at least three times.
  • After one has combed and removed out all the lice, they should wash their hair with shampoo as they usually do.
  • Once this treatment is finished, they should make sure that everything used is cleaned thoroughly. This includes all the towels, hair clips, combs, etc.
