How I Celebrated Mother’s Day with My Mother at Sequoia National Park, California Last Year

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and I suddenly had a thought about the fantastic time I spent Mother’s Day with my beloved mother at the Sequoia National Park, California last year. Just like any and every other child, I love my mother immensely. It may sound thoroughly clichéd, but she is physically and figuratively the center of my universe, the sun to my earth and moon to my waves. There is nothing about her that annoys me. She may be laid back on technology, does not understand how the internet works or has trust issues with online transactions; I love her regardless because I find here adorable.

Every mother and their definition of motherhood is different. I obviously cannot compare my mother to anyone else, but I am so glad that her in my life. Before I moved out of my home back in Sacramento, she was sunshine and my sunset. I use to wake her to her voice and sleep seeing her face. She nourished and governed me into a person I am today. I am now a responsible citizen of this amazing country, a travel blogger and a photographer. All this was made into reality because of my beloved mother’s sacrifice and patience. Needless to say, she is my only best friend.

When Mother’s Day was nearing, I decided to take her and my dad for a weekend getaway to the Sequoia National Park. She always wanted to visit the park. I don’t know that there was something my mother was always fascinated by that national park. Maybe it was because she wanted to witness the tallest and the oldest tree there is in the world, or perhaps just the Sequoia feel, or perhaps she just wanted to get out of Sacramento for a while and have her own time.

Ever since I was a little boy, my mother kept telling us that “one day someday, I will be at Sequoia National Park and I will be the happiest.” I wanted her dreamt wishes to become a reality, which is why I started to gift her a two days getaway to the park. I was in NYC when I decided on the plan. I immediately opened the Cheapbestfares websites and looked for cheap flight tickets to Sacramento. Just like always, the website offered me the low-cost airline tickets to Sacramento.

Reaching Sacramento was anyway a surprise to my amazing mother. Let’s not forget to mention my overly pampering father was surprised too. Let me tell you that my family and I never formally and practically celebrated Mother’s Day. It used to just my dad and I kissing/hugging my mom and telling her – “Happy Mother’s Day.” It was that simple. But I was in full mood to end this boring tradition. My mother had no clue what was happening and the things I had planned for her.

When the most visited day arrived, I told my mom to pack a few clothes, and we are going to our farmhouse outside of the city. She without a doubt, packed all that she had too. An hour later into the drive she realized that we weren’t heading to our farm. She kept asking me where we were heading. I kept quiet. I said to her – Have patience old lady. After another hour when a milestone after Fresno said Sequoia National Park – 259 miles, my mother screamed and said “are you going to Sequoia? Are we? Victor are we?” I then finally answered my mother willful – Yes mamma, we are on our way and going to Sequoia.

I still remember the tears of joy dripping down her eyes. I could tell that she really was thankful and glad. Once we reached the park, we decided to rest at the guesthouse. After our evening tea, we decided to take a walk down the trail; the park was covered with tall trees and giant groves. We happen to see the General Sherman Tree. My mother always wanted to view the world’s tallest tree, and when she saw the tree, she looked at me and hugged. She said thank you. I knew she lived up to see the oldest existing thing in the world. My father, on the other hand, was only clicking our photographs. He was just genuinely being a typical American father. I kissed my mom and said her Happy Mother’s Day mom. She mentioned how proud she is about all the things that I have accomplished and that she appreciates my gift.

The next day my mother was super excited. We drove to the Zumwalt Meadows which is at the Kings Canyon. It was over an hour drive from our guesthouse. After spending some time there, we headed to see the granite dome called the Moro Rock. This was a viewpoint that gives fabulous Sequoia view. We just sat there having the time of our lives. The chilly wind, the sound of the wind, the scene of the mountain all kept me aware of the things I have in my life. My father and my mother are the reason that I find the world a better place and this Mother’s Day is the best. I promised myself to keep celebrating this day every year with my mother because it’s her time to take a vacation. She did not because she had a crazy child to raise.

I cannot believe it’s been over a year, but my Sequoia memories are still fresh. This year I am planning to take my mom to Maine. She hasn’t seen much to the east coast. And I think she would love my surprise. I looked at Cheapbestfares and search for the best flight deals to Augusta. I did find pretty decent airline tickets to Augusta, and so I booked three tickets to Augusta for May. I am pretty excited already. I suppose I should be. With an amazing company and discounts on Mother’s Day flight tickets from Cheapbestfares, I feel I am ruling the world right now. To all those kids reading my blog, do me a favor and gift your mother a vacation because you know she deserves it. Happy Mother’s Day in advance.
