All through the nine months, you have been waiting in baited anticipation to bring home a sweet, healthy, and cuddly baby. Accordingly, you would plan a few baby essentials – from choosing the most comfortable baby clothes to safe pacifiers and the best doctors. However, despite taking the best efforts, mosquito bites on your baby’s skin are inevitable. It can cause red, itchy, and bumpy rashes on your little one’s delicate skin.
Ways to Keep the Mosquitoes at Bay from your baby
Mosquitoes basically carry various kinds of germs and diseases including dengue, and malaria, and that is not safe for your munchkin’s developing immunity. Having said that, keeping mosquitoes far from your child can be a task for you, but here are a few things you must keep in mind to keep the mosquitoes at bay:
Cover Your Child With Clothes That Keep the Mosquitoes Away
That’s a no-brainer of course. But you must ensure that while putting your little one to sleep, you cover him or her up with cotton and comfy clothes. Choose those clothes for your little one that will cover his or her arms and legs. For instance, if you’re making your little one wear onesies, make sure that you cover the tummy of your baby with a light inner vest. Try not to make your baby wear dark colours or floral prints. (They attract mosquitoes). Light colours are the best way to go for your kids.
Use Age-appropriate Mosquito Repellents
Chemical repellents are believed to be very effective. Some of them are effective for about 2 hrs to 5 hrs after switching them on, based on what chemicals are present in the repellents.
For the 2 Months Old
Instead of repellents, use mosquito nets and clothes (like the ones mentioned above) that will cover your baby’s body.
For More Than 2 Months Old
You may use repellents that have up to 30% DEET, as well as picaridin. Specialists would always suggest you as parents choose repellents of lower concentration. Well! Repellents with lower concentrations of chemicals do not mean they are less effective.
Try to Use Mosquito–Repelling Fragrances Instead
It could be anything from scented candles to essential oils (lavender, eucalyptus, cedar, etc). They could keep your house smelling nice and mosquito-free. However, ensure that, you keep the scented candles and incense burners at a safe distance from your little one. Your naughty little one may find them attractive and go close to them, leaving them burned.
Install Mosquito Nets and Screens on the Doors and Windows
Check the holes all around your house almost regularly. Cover the gaps in the doors and windows. You can even cover the doors and windows with mesh screens. Using nylon insect screens is indeed a very good idea. They can be washed and removed daily.
Clear Up the Breeding Ground of Mosquitoes
Mosquito breeds in stagnant water. Ensure that you clear all the water vessels as well as the surrounding of your house to keep the mosquitoes and insects away.
Your little ones are the most precious things in your life. Their health and safety are your biggest concern. With a little bit of precaution, you can certainly keep your baby safe mosquitoes.
